My favorite pilates recovery tools

A list of recovery tools that I am currently obsessed with:

Compression stockings: the cheapest and easiest recovery tool I’ve ever come across. I love to wear these in the evening and before I go to work to reduce inflammation, improve circulation and decrease the appearance and advancement of varicose veins.

Vibration plate: A new addition to my personal recovery tool box. Love this for lymphatic drainage, muscle relaxation, fascial release, to improve circulation and improve athletic recovery.

Theraface: awesome facial massager with a ton of other features, which I admittedly could make better use of. However, I just love using this to help with my tmj/ neck pain. It’s made a huge difference. It’s got a smaller head, and is less percussive than the original Theragun (included below) which is important when treating these delicate areas of the body.

Theragun: great for targeting trigger points. Consistent use of this has really helped me to work through aches and pains between massages; and, has been a lifesaver between massages.

Omni Cervical Relief Pillow: a client introduced me to this a few months ago and it’s become a studio favorite. I use this both during exercise and as a recovery tool. I use it during breathe work/ meditation and stretching post studio.

Foam roller: A necessity in any recovery toolbox. I prefer the 36” size so I can place it along my spine to open up my back/ shoulders. But any size foam roller is a win.

Heating Pad: I’ve used a lot of heating pads in my lifetime but one specifically designed for shoulders/ neck is a must. the added weighted element of this one is a great bonus. (If you aren’t interested in a weighted option, fear not- this is my favorite non weighted heating blanket). I use this almost daily (and also love that you can wash it for that reason!

Cervical traction device: Have been using this exact model for five years now and I absolutely love it. I like to combine it with a meditation or podcast when my neck is really stiff. Similar in effect to the Omi Cervical but less gentle in aligning the neck and is only to be used for 5-15 minutes a day for neck traction; it shouldn’t be used as a headrest during exercise or for sleep as it’s intended for neck traction/ release not as a neck support.
